Turning Purpose into Impact: How Clean Living Connects to Women’s Health

At the Bexa Equity Alliance (BEA), we love shining a light on women who are turning their personal stories into powerful movements for change. This month, we’re celebrating Nishan Gugsa, the founder of Good + Plenty Naturals, whose journey from personal experience to purposeful entrepreneurship is a beautiful reminder of how deeply wellness, awareness, and advocacy are intertwined.

From Heartache to Healing: The Inspiration Behind Good + Plenty Naturals

Nishan’s story begins with her mother’s battle with breast cancer. A moment that forever changed how she viewed health, self-care, and the products we use every day. When her mom was advised to stop using aluminum-based deodorants, it sparked a realization: how much do we really know about what we put on our bodies?

Determined to find safer alternatives, Nishan started experimenting with natural ingredients at home. What began as a personal mission to help her mom soon evolved into something much bigger; a calling to create clean, effective, and beautiful products that empower women to care for their bodies intentionally.

During her research, she discovered something that hit close to home: many personal care products marketed to Black women contained hormone-disrupting chemicals linked to higher rates of aggressive breast cancer, early puberty, and preterm birth. That moment clarified her mission – this wasn’t just about deodorant; it was about health equity, representation, and protecting Black women’s wellness.

Good + Plenty Naturals was born out of love, science, and purpose. A brand built to celebrate and protect women, especially those who have been overlooked for far too long.

Clean Beauty with Purpose

What sets Good + Plenty Naturals apart is its unapologetic focus on who it serves. Nishan often says, “We’re not the afterthought — we’re the blueprint.” While many clean beauty brands highlight non-toxic ingredients, few are intentionally designed with Black women in mind from the start.

Every product is crafted for melanated skin and diverse needs, balancing effectiveness with a sense of ritual and joy. From the aluminum-free deodorant that started it all to the newest self-care essentials, each formula is made to feel good and do good, thus transforming daily hygiene into a moment of nourishment and self-celebration.

But Good + Plenty is more than a product line; it’s a movement. Nishan is building a community grounded in transparency, education, and empowerment, where women feel informed, seen, and inspired to make choices that support their long-term health.

Where Clean Care Meets Breast Health

The connection between breast health and clean personal care is powerful. Both are rooted in prevention, awareness, and self-advocacy, and that’s exactly where Good + Plenty shines.

By creating products that eliminate harmful ingredients and encouraging open dialogue about what goes into our bodies, Nishan is helping women take control of their health one choice at a time. Her brand’s message is clear: prevention begins with knowledge.

“Our skin is our largest organ,” she reminds us. “When we use products filled with harsh chemicals, over time they can affect our health in ways we may not realize. Once you know better, you can do better.”

That awareness fuels everything she does. Good + Plenty Naturals invites women to see self-care not as vanity, but as protection — a daily ritual that honors the body, strengthens confidence, and reinforces the belief that wellness is a right, not a luxury.

Shared Purpose: BEA x Good + Plenty Naturals

When we asked Nishan what excites her most about the mission of the Bexa Equity Alliance, her answer was immediate: access and equity.

She sees BEA as partners in redefining what women’s healthcare looks like; from prevention to innovation. “Bexa  Breast Exams aren’t just improving technology,” she said. “It’s transforming how women experience care. By bringing early detection directly to communities, the BEA is helping women take charge of their health in a way that feels compassionate and accessible.”

Together, BEA and Good + Plenty share a unified mission — to bridge the gap between awareness and actionWhere BEA advances early detection and equitable access to breast exams, Good + Plenty champions informed self-care and clean living. When advocacy and access come together, women win.

Empowerment Through Experience

Nishan’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. As a founder and serial entrepreneur, she knows what it means to give everything to a vision, sometimes at the cost of her own well-being. After facing burnout and a health diagnosis of Crohn’s disease, she had to redefine success on her own terms.

That experience reshaped her approach to business and to life. Now, she leads with balance, compassion, and a deep understanding that rest, joy, and healing are just as essential as productivity and growth. “Self-care isn’t a reward,” she says. “It’s part of the work.”

Her story is a powerful reminder that wellness and ambition don’t have to exist in conflict — they can coexist beautifully when we choose sustainability over sacrifice.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Good + Plenty

Good + Plenty Naturals continues to grow its mission and product line. On November 18th, Nishan is launching a new body oil! A product that embodies everything her brand stands for: quality ingredients, mindful formulation, and intentional self-care.

She’s also developing a new community initiative called Tap Out to Tap In, encouraging women to disconnect from the constant hustle and reconnect with themselves in mind, body, and spirit. It’s about slowing down, breathing deeply, and embracing rest as a powerful form of wellness.

A Call to Reflect & Reconnect

As we close, Nishan’s story reminds us that wellness is both daily practice and lifelong advocacy. Choosing clean, intentional products and prioritizing early detection are two sides of the same commitment — to care for ourselves fully and fearlessly.

When we take the time to nurture our bodies and stay proactive about our health, we move from simply surviving to truly thriving. Self-care isn’t vanity; it’s responsibility. And early detection is one of the most powerful expressions of that care.

At BEA, we’re proud to partner with women like Nishan who are changing the conversation around wellness and equity — reminding us of all that when women are informed, supported, and empowered, everyone benefits.
