Survivor Spotlight: Lyndsay Levingston’s Journey from Diagnosis to Advocacy

At the Bexa Equity Alliance, we believe that stories have power—the power to educate, inspire, and save lives. That’s why we’re honored to share the story of Lyndsay Levingston, a remarkable woman whose breast cancer journey sparked a national movement to uplift and support women facing similar battles.

Lyndsay Levingston is a multimedia personality, speaker, writer, and the founder of SurviveHER, a nonprofit dedicated to informing, inspiring, and empowering women impacted by breast cancer. Today, she’s also a survivor and fierce advocate for early detection—especially in communities of color. Her story is one of resilience, urgency, and purpose.

The Moment That Changed Everything

In July 2019, at just 37 years old, Lyndsay discovered a lump in her right breast while doing a self-exam in the shower. “I was stunned when I felt something that didn’t belong,” she recalled. That simple act—one many women overlook—set off a life-saving chain of events. She immediately followed up with her OB-GYN, who ordered a mammogram and an ultrasound. A biopsy confirmed her fears: she had Stage 2B triple-negative breast cancer.

It’s an aggressive and often difficult-to-treat form of breast cancer that disproportionately affects Black women. But because Lyndsay caught it early and acted quickly, her care team was able to intervene without delay. Her diagnosis was devastating, but she was ready to fight.

A Grueling but Purposeful Path to Healing

Lyndsay underwent 15 rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction. Genetic testing revealed she carried the BRCA1 gene mutation, a hereditary marker associated with a significantly higher risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Armed with that knowledge, she chose to undergo additional preventive surgeries, including a partial hysterectomy. (Fortunately, her breast surgeon acted swiftly—referring her to an oncofertility specialist who helped preserve her chance at motherhood before she began chemotherapy.)

Throughout her journey, Lyndsay’s strength and advocacy were unwavering. She educated herself, asked questions, and pushed for answers. “Self-advocacy saved my life,” she said. “I listened to my body and didn’t wait to get checked. That urgency made a difference in my outcome.”

In February 2020, Lyndsay was declared cancer-free. But her journey didn’t end there.

Turning Pain Into Purpose

Out of this experience, Lyndsay birthed SurviveHER, a national nonprofit organization focused on breast health education and emotional support for women impacted by breast cancer. What began as a personal fight became a mission and Lyndsay’s personal ministry to change outcomes for others—particularly Black women, who face significantly higher mortality rates due to systemic inequities in healthcare.

Through SurviveHER, Lyndsay has created a powerful platform that offers unique, curated lifestyle programs, community workshops, fitness experiences, survivor spotlights, educational tools, and most importantly, (hot pink) support. It’s more than a nonprofit—it’s a sisterhood. Her goal is clear: to help women live their BREAST healthiest lives.

What Lyndsay Wants Every Woman to Know

If there’s one message Lyndsay wants to share with other women, it’s that early detection truly saves lives. She’s living proof. “Breast cancer doesn’t care about your age, your race, or your lifestyle,” she says. “Be proactive about your health. Do your self-exams, schedule your screenings, know your family history, and trust your instincts. When something doesn’t feel right—speak up.”

She also emphasizes the importance of community and connection. “You are not alone,” she reminds us. “There is strength in sisterhood. That’s why I built SurviveHER—so that no woman has to face this journey without support.”

Partnering for Impact

We at the Bexa Equity Alliance are proud to stand alongside Lyndsay and support her work. Our missions align in powerful ways: we both believe in accessible, life-saving care, especially for women who have historically been overlooked by the healthcare system. Bexa’s radiation-free, gentle breast exams are helping to close the gap in early detection, and SurviveHER is helping women everywhere feel empowered to take that first step.

Together, we’re working to ensure that more women—especially women under 40—have the tools, information, and access they need to protect their breast health.

Honoring Her Journey

Lyndsay’s story reminds us that breast cancer is not just a diagnosis—it’s a lifelong transformation. Her strength, advocacy, and vision have already saved lives, and her voice continues to lead the way in a movement for health equity.

At just 43, Lyndsay has already built a legacy of change. From the moment she felt that lump to the founding of SurviveHER, her journey has been one of courage, action, and heart.

We’re honored to share her story and continue partnering with her in our mission to empower and protect women everywhere.
