Introducing Dr. Wendy Garvin Mayo: A Transformative Leader Joins the BEA
We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to the Bexa Equity Alliance Advisory Members, Dr. Wendy Garvin Mayo, DNP, APRN, ANP-BC. With over two decades of experience in clinical, leadership, research, academia, and the pharmaceutical sectors, Dr. Garvin Mayo is a distinguished healthcare leader who brings unparalleled expertise and passion to our mission.
About Dr. Wendy Garvin Mayo
Dr. Garvin Mayo is the CEO and Founder of Collaborative Cancer Care, an organization dedicated to revolutionizing mental health support for cancer patients, survivors, their families, and oncology healthcare professionals. Her visionary approach has transformed the landscape of mental and emotional well-being within the cancer community.
In addition to her impactful role at Collaborative Cancer Care, Dr. Garvin Mayo chairs the Connecticut Cancer Partner Survivorship Board, leading initiatives to enhance the care of cancer survivors throughout the state. Dr. Garvin Mayo serves as a Medical Advisory Board member for TOUCH, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance. She is also the past President of the Central Connecticut Nursing Society and currently serves as Director-at-Large, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to advancing oncology nursing practice and oncology patient care.
Driven by an unwavering commitment to ensuring comprehensive mental and emotional support for every individual impacted by cancer, Dr. Garvin Mayo’s work is a beacon of hope for many. Her book, “SHAPE Your Life: 5-Step Blueprint for Sustainable Stress Management,” reflects her dedication to advancing mental health and resilience within the cancer community.

At the BEA, we provide lifesaving Bexa Breast Exams to women in need, especially those from under-resourced communities. Women of color and under-resourced communities are twice as likely to die from breast cancer, often due to late detection. Nearly 80% of lower-income women in the U.S. do not get regular screening mammography, and women of color have the lowest participation rates in traditional breast cancer screening. Early detection saves lives, and that’s why the BEA, together with our Allies and Partners, works tirelessly to provide accurate, convenient, painless, and radiation-free Bexa Breast Exams at no cost to at-risk women.

The BEA and Girl Con are two powerhouse organizations that have united on a life-saving mission: bringing early detection breast exams to Bahamian women who need them the most. Through this impactful partnership, we will provide critical Bexa breast exams to 1,000 women in the Bahamas by February 2025—an effort that’s not only raising awareness but is also changing lives. Together, we are making a powerful difference in Grand Bahama, empowering women with access to care that is saving lives.
Both organizations were spotlighted for the incredible work we are doing collectively at the Bahamas Red Cross Society Renaissance Ball, which despite the absence of this major fundraiser for the past 17 years, the ongoing work of The Bahama Red Cross under the leadership of President Edison L. Sumner, has never ceased and continues to provide humanitarian aid for the less fortunate.
The theme was, “The Renaissance - Resilient, Renewed, Recharged,” which embodies the spirit of the Grand Bahama Centre, as well as the people of Grand Bahama. The delightful evening of elegance, excitement, and entertainment reset as Grand Bahama’s premier social event of the year.
